Thom Yorke, leader of the band Radiohead, tries here for the first time the exercise of a film soundtrack, and not just any one since it is the remake of the cult horror film by Dario Argento, Suspiria, by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name). He composed, for this, no less than 25 original tracks including the first excerpt Suspirium, a sublime piano-voice ballad. A successful first experience but one that was terrifying for Thom Yorke: “normally, to compose the music for a horror film, you need an orchestra and specific things. But Luca [Guadagnino], the director, and Walter [Fasano], the editor, are not directive and prefer to let you find your own way.” The bar was high since the original film owed its success as much to Argento's aesthetics as to the haunting music of the band Goblin, but Thom Yorke rose to the challenge brilliantly. “There is a repetitive aspect in the music that can hypnotize and I keep telling myself that it’s a way to cast spells. So, when I entered the studio, I cast spells.”
