Description

In 1972, Steve Lacy recorded Solo, a gem of his discography, at the Théâtre du Chêne Noir in Avignon. The previous year (the year Aurora was also born), the eponymous troupe, led by Gérard Gelas, had settled into a 12th-century chapel. The Théâtre du Chêne Noir is therefore not only the name of a venue open to all artistic daring, but also that of the formidable troupe that resides there.Gérard Terronès showed keen insight by releasing, in 1971 on Futura, the first album by the Théâtre du Chêne Noir. It must be said that Gérard Gelas's troupe suited him perfectly: nonconformist, eccentric, committed, bursting with vitality... And singing too, as can still be heard today on Aurora, recorded in Avignon on June 22 and 23, 1971.
