The Young Gods are releasing a new record, "Play Terry Riley In C." Composed and created by Terry Riley in 1964, In C is a major piece in the repertoire of contemporary music from the second half of the 20th century, and a pivotal moment in its history. The Young Gods first approached "In C" in 2019 at the invitation of Benedikt Hayoz, director of the Landwehr wind orchestra in Fribourg - this led to a performance of the work with 85 musicians. In this album, the Young Gods offer a new interpretation of In C, in a trio format and with their own sound vocabulary - electronic instruments, drums, and guitars. They chose to follow the score and indications of Terry Riley, while allowing themselves some additional freedom, for example in terms of managing sound intensity - which evolves, over several long cycles, from near-silence to eruption and back again.
