After the dissolution of Leeds alternative rock band The Lost Pandas in the early 1980s, singer-guitarist David Gedge and bassist Keith Gregory decided to form a new band. In 1985, seduced by pop radio, punk audacity, The Velvet Underground, and David's former classmates The Chameleons, they launched The Wedding Present. This band was – and remains – uncompromising and unfailingly authentic in every way. This is how Gedge, unwittingly, became a legendary figure in alternative music. He became one of the main architects and creators of modern guitar rock and the mastermind behind one of the richest, catchiest, and most captivating catalogs in pop history.
