The War On Drugs release Live Drugs, their first new album since A Deeper Understanding (2017), which won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, via Super High Quality, Adam Granduciel's own label, the band's leader. Live Drugs is a collection drawn from over 40 hard drives of concert recordings spanning several years of tours for different albums. It is the first volume to capture the band's live interpretations. It also portrays a long relationship between Adam Granduciel and Dominic East, co-producer of Live Drugs, a longtime friend, guitar technician, and tour manager. The first single "Pain" is a perfect and hypnotic explosion from the heart of rock. Live Drugs has been sequenced to reflect the typical flow of a 70-minute concert. It unfolds with live elements immortalized on record for the first time, illustrating how years of touring have nurtured the evolution of the songs. It features "Buenos Aires Beach," from Wagonwheel Blues, their debut album released in 2008, and a cover of Warren Zevon's "Accidentally like a Martyr." There is a first live version of "Strangest Thing," from the album A Deeper Understanding (2017), which Adam Granduciel fell in love with upon rediscovering this recording. In the last five minutes of "Under the Pressure," a concert staple, you can hear a crowd of 20,000 people singing the guitar melody. "Eyes to the Wind" is completely different from its version on the album Lost in the Dream (2014). No track is set in stone. Live Drugs is a moment of freedom for the band but also a valuable document that reveals its evolution over the years.
