Description

German pianist and composer Bruno Heinen, based in London, draws his inspiration from 20th-century classical compositions as well as the jazz tradition. His music has been described as eclectic, eccentric and discreetly erudite by The Guardian. This album is inspired by Béla Bartók’s Mikrokosmos, taking elements and ideas from volume 6 of the composer’s work, as well as lyrics in the form of quotations from Bartók, to create a new suite. Bruno Heinen’s quartet, The W, is a new contemporary jazz group featuring the charismatic British jazz singer Heidi Vogel. On drums is New Yorker Gene Calderazzo, a major figure on the international jazz scene. On double bass, Italian Andrea Di Biase has played with such luminaries as Norma Winstone and Kenny Wheeler.
