This classic debut album injects so much unbridled joy into two-minute, three-chord pop songs, and there is so little pretension in their resolutely teenage worldview, that even the darker allusions to life in songs such as the suicide-themed “Jimmy Jimmy” are delivered with a sense of optimism that ran contrary to so many of their contemporaries. This re-issue is pressed on clear green vinyl. The Undertones formed in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1975 and released their debut album ‘The Undertones’ in 1979, which peaked at number 13 in the UK charts. John and Damian O'Neill combined infectious 60's garage/glam rock guitar hooks with Feargal Sharkey's trademark vocal quaver. These qualities gelled together on their hit ‘Teenage Kicks’, whose simplicity harked back to the ideals of the 60's when song was king.
