Mike Skinner from Birmingham, "moved" to London in reverse in 2002 to release Original Pirate Material, a debut album that caught the attention of the press and the public, is one of the few English artists who have something to say and take pride in making it known. A more or less cool deviation of electronica, 2-step is a kind of mechanical hip-hop scented with hints of house, a sound background filled with skirmishes that serves as the soil for Skinner's explicit flow, never better than when he settles scores in public.
A group in itself, a certified troublemaker, the young man is not here to joke and does not make it easy for himself by darkening the content of an album that sorely lacks singles. The soul Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way or the very Blur/Dury Fit But You Know It offer nice breaths but the whole, although coherent, has a seriousness that requires a real investment from the potential listener...
