Beehive Mind

Description

The eleven songs of Beehive Mind, the new album by the Boston indie punk band Spatulas, all share a percussive and subtle presence, a regular and clear snap. Each note on the record is a bit sad in itself, but they are arranged in such a way that you don't notice it. The songs breathe warmth and patience; they are immediate and gentle. Then they start to wander. The guitar hops with the deliberate unpredictability of a wild animal. The parts repeat and reset with the obsession of an anxious mind. The lyrics open the door to unexpected scenes of love, family, and violence. Members of Spatulas have also played in The Blimp, Honey Bucket, Hot Gum, and Meerkaz.
