From the enchanting vocal duets of folk singers Leonore Wheatley and Dorian Conway, to Paul Isherwood's precise basslines and co-writer Adam Cann's supple, jazz-cool, Hal Blaine-esque drumming, to the whimsical flutes, 60s garage guitars, and organ sounds plundered from exotica archives, listening to The Soundcarriers feels like rediscovering all the most cherished and esoteric nooks of the 60s, all brought together, warped and refracted through the quartet's cleverly modern cultural prism. Drawing on tropicalia, Middle Eastern psych jazz/funk, the French library music sounds of Nino Nardini, and a whole host of other sumptuous and obscure cuts, Through Other Reflection delivers another sonic adventure from one of British psychedelia's most unique and distinctive voices. After an 8-year wait for their fourth album – 2022's Wilds – it thankfully hasn't taken as long for the follow-up this time. In many ways, this feels like a companion to Wilds; again recorded in their Nottingham studio, Through Other Reflection retains that same organic glow, all the passions and imperfections of a tightly knit unit that makes these living, breathing pop-art nuggets leap out as if direct from the acetate.
