The story of "the indie crowd finally learning to dance" is a bit exaggerated and irrelevant in 2023, but what remains clear is that this album, made by a punk band from San Diego who had moved to New York via Seattle, and produced by DFA in their own studio, where time, equipment, and ideas, good and bad, were plentiful, retains an energy and a quest for catharsis that could bulldozer even the most uptight.
