Description

Since their first album, 'Silence Slowly And Madly Shines' (Alter K), released in 2017, the members of The Psychotic Monks have never stopped impressing us with their maturity and their determination to offer a singular stage and recorded presence. Their secret: a constant questioning that runs through everything they do and led the band to release Private Meaning First (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records) in 2019, a fiery second album that even redefined the alphabet of their music in two chapters and a fifteen-minute epilogue. It should also be remembered that there is no leader within the band; everyone writes, sings and composes in unison. This gives rise to a questioning not only of their practice, but also of their personal positioning and, of course, of their relationship with the audience. Then the pandemic arrived, a period that allowed for a great deal of perspective. The new tracks were then composed through long improvs in the studio, in total connection with the unconscious, and reach us in 2023 as an act of resistance to the surrounding violence. This 3rd album, Pink Colour Surgery (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records), produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, was therefore born from these perpetual questions. Here, one should not necessarily expect the "song" format, but rather a sonic chaos in which the band has tamed the wild flights of fancy to make them into an uncompromising setting, where each idea has found its own space of freedom. The album has been a great success (in Libération's top albums of 2023, 2nd album of 2023 for Mowno, radio and TV airplay, a KEXP session recorded in Seattle, etc.) and takes the band on a long tour throughout the year. At the beginning of 2024, they shared 10 dates in the UK with Gilla Band in sold-out, electrified clubs before heading back out to play in various European countries. Rock en Seine also booked them. Highly renowned for their live performances, both explosive and emotionally powerful, The Psychotic Monks decided to record their current live set in the luxurious Paris studios La Frette (Nick Cave, Arctic Monkeys, etc.) in order to preserve it in time and share it with a larger number of fans. The release of the double album, once again produced with Daniel Fox, is scheduled for June 2024 and will undoubtedly help establish the French band as one of the leading lights of independent rock in Europe.
