In The Good Old Country Way

Description

"In The Good Old Country Way," the original album by the Nightingales released in 1986, marking their two-decade hiatus, is the last masterpiece of post-punk published before the C86 era. Back on vinyl for the first time in over three decades, the reissue is updated to include the entirety of the 7" single "It's A Cracker" and the 12" maxi "What A Carry On" from 1985, plus a handful of tracks never before released on vinyl. A roots base for songs full of wit, energy, and observation, which fit both long groove-based explorations and high-intensity rants. Maria Smith's violin weaves in and out of the songs, while the rhythm section of Pete Jenner (bass) and Ron Collins (drums) keeps what could have been a disjointed mess together, but it's multi-instrumentalist/arranger Pete Byrchmore who shares the spotlight with Lloyd. A sublime record, featuring the band's best songs, "Comfort And Joy," and the tenderly alienating "First My Job."
