This Count Ossie and The Mystic Revelation album, originally from 1975, has been fully remastered and includes two rare bonus tracks, extensive liner notes, exclusive photographs, and an interview.
Count Ossie is the central figure in the development of Rastafari roots music, now an almost mythical and iconic figure. His importance in spreading Rastafari music to a populist audience is matched only by Bob Marley’s international promotion of the faith in the 1970s. The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari is the group that most contributed to bringing authentic Rastafari rhythms into the collective consciousness of popular music. Their unique music is both rooted in the deep traditions and rituals of traditional drumming and chanting, and an avant-garde art influenced by artists like John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, and other radicalized African-American jazz pioneers from the 1960s civil rights movement.
