The writer Seishi Yokomizo is an institution in Japan. He could be compared to Agatha Christie with his series of novels based on the adventures of detective Kosuke Kindaichi. The fictional character was born in 1946 and solved cases until the late 1970s before the writer's death in 1981. Kindaichi is a unique character, a clumsy yet scrupulous detective, who has become legendary in Japan over the decades. Yokomizo's novels have been a popular source for film and TV series scripts, and when, in 1977, the Japanese label King Records decided to record a concept album based on Kindaichi's novels, it made perfect sense. The concept album was produced by pianist Kentaro Haneda, a highly regarded composer for television, film, and video games in Japan. For the album The Adventures of Kindaichi Kosuke, Haneda brought together a supergroup made up of the best funk and city pop musicians from Tokyo. The lineup is extensive and includes jazz pianist Hideo Ichikawa, drummer Jun Moriya, percussionist Tadaomi Anai, trumpeter Koji Hadori, saxophonist Takeru Muraoka, koto player Kimiko Yamauchi, and finally, horn player Koji Yamaguchi. Together, they lay the groundwork for relentless disco funk across the ten instrumentals filled with breakbeats, making the album one of the most sought-after Japanese LPs on the international scene. This reissue is the first official release of the album outside of Japan. Arranged by one of the masters of Japanese soundtracks and accompanied by a mysterious group of the best funk musicians from the 70s, the album is a pure disco funk marvel!
