Wewantsounds continues its program of Japanese reissues with the first international release of one of the key City Pop albums: the 1979 classic, Summer-Time Love Song by The Milky Way. Originally released on the Seven Seas label, the album was produced by Makoto Matsushita with Kazuo Nobuta, showcasing the peak of late 70s Japanese craftsmanship working miracles in the studio to concoct sophisticated music blending high-level AOR and Jazz-Fusion. This album is the precursor to Matsushita's masterpiece, First Light (1981). Nobuta and Matsushita lead the cream of Japanese studio musicians (including saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu) through a superb mix of AOR, funk, and Brazilian music. From the sunny bossa nova rhythms of Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic "Wave" to the sophisticated interpretation of Boz Scaggs' track "Harbor Lights," ending with the dreamy rhythms of "Endless Summer," the record is a masterclass in elegant funky arrangements and laid-back harmonies. This edition reproduces the original cover, illustrated with photos by Shinpei Asai, a photographer famous for his iconic work on the album Pacific by Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, and Tatsuro Yamashita.
