G Stands For Go-Betweens: The Go-Betweens Anthology - Volume 3

Description

A collection of 4 LPs and 7 CDs documenting the band's reformation, including numerous rare and archival materials, as well as explanatory notes written by Robert Forster. After a brief collaboration with Sire Records for Spring Hill Fair, The Go-Betweens signed with Beggars Banquet and released Liberty Belle And The Black Diamond Express, marked by high-quality compositions. Buoyed by this album, the band expanded with Amanda Brown for Tallulah and released 16 Lovers Lane, their Australian masterpiece and the final album of their first phase. Despite the success of Streets Of Your Town in the US with Capitol Records and intense touring with R.E.M., the band broke up in 1989. Forster and McLennan pursued solo careers before reuniting in 2000 for three new albums, including Oceans Apart (an ARIA winner). McLennan's death in 2006 brought an end to the band. Forster wrote Grant & I, an acclaimed memoir, and in 2017, the documentary Right Here traced their journey, celebrating their major influence on artists such as Belle & Sebastian and Courtney Barnett. Their "scratched and sunny" sound continues to inspire musicians and fans.
