After recording their first album during the golden age of rock in the late sixties, the Gladiators experienced modest success before beginning to forge a promising collaboration with producer ''Prince Tony'' Robinson, based in Kingston, in 1976. During the following years, the trio composed of Albert Griffiths, Clinton Fearon, and Gallimore Sutherland recorded a series of superb records alongside Robinson, most of which were released outside their native Jamaica, via Virgin Records. The best of these records is distilled into 3 long formats: Trenchtown Mix Up (1976), Proverbial Reggae (1978), Naturality (1979). A 4th LP, Sweet To Till (self-produced), proved that the Gladiators represented a well-established group in the reggae landscape by the late 70s.
