The re-release of "Absent Friends" to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary! "Absent Friends" was originally released in 2004. Neil says of the album: "The songs use stories and characters as frameworks to express my ideas. The album is mostly about the struggle between the pull towards personal freedom and the comfort of family life." It features a guest appearance by Yann Tiersen. The CD edition includes 2 discs: the remastered album and a second CD of bonus tracks (B-sides, demos, and alternative takes chosen by Neil Hannon – most of which are completely unreleased). The CD comes with a booklet of photos and notes written by Neil that discuss the context and inspirations behind the album and these tracks. The LP edition includes the remastered original album with a download code for the album and bonus tracks. The LP is a heavyweight black gatefold with photos, credits, and notes from Neil.
