While Dave Brubeck is the author and performer of many essential jazz recordings, the Oberlin concert recording is revolutionary in two ways: recorded in 1953 in the chapel of an Ohio university, 'Jazz at Oberlin' offered a new setting for a genre previously confined to clubs.
Alongside bassist Ron Crotty, drummer Lloyd Davis, and alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, Dave Brubeck also offered one of the first glimpses of his revolutionary style, both complex and accessible, through standards by Hoagy Carmichael, Juan Tizol, and Jerome Kern.
