Last year, with new compositions under their arms, The Casanovas, pumped up, knocked on the door of the 30Mill studios where the famous and iconic Australian producer Mark Opitz (AC/DC, The Angels, Cold Chisel, The Divinyls) was waiting to record their fifth album. The Casanovas offered a taste of the upcoming album at the end of 2019 when they released their first single in over four years, with the now-famous anthem "Hollywood Riot." ‘Reptilian Overlord, the album, revels in everything fans have come to know and love about The Casanovas, and it showcases the impact of Opitz, who has worked on many of the band's favorite albums like Powerage and Face to Face. As the band's bassist, Damo Campbell, says: “Mark is the master of mixing for great guitar sounds. He certainly brought some of his techniques into our sessions… It was also very inspiring to be in the studio to hear some of his stories about the great rock bands he has worked with throughout his long career.” Although they were caught up in the rock movement at the beginning of the 21st century, The Casanovas have always had deeper roots and a natural ease in showcasing them. Hailing from the Rock’n’Roll Capital of the Universe – Melbourne – The Casanovas remain a fusion of two great local traditions – punk rock’n’roll and Oz Rock – and when they emerged at the beginning of the century, these two genres got a serious facelift. “It’s like they’ve captured all my favourite rock acts – Cheap Trick, Stones, Kiss, ZZ Top & AC/DC, and crammed them all into their own jar of Vegemite.” James “The Hound Dog” Young, owner of the Cherry Bar, an icon of the rock venue in Australia. The Casanovas are: Tommy Boyle (Guitars, Vocals Piano), Damo Campbell (Bass, Vocals), Rickie Rae (Drums). Still available: Terra Casanova (CD/LP), All Night Long (CD + DVD).
