Still as prolific, barely a year after "Thingy Wingy," the Brian Jonestown Massacre return with a new (and 17th) album titled "Third World Pyramid." After "Musique de film imaginé," a concept album that paid tribute to the soundtracks of Nouvelle Vague films in collaboration with Soko and Asia Argento, it didn't take long for Anton Newcombe to return to the good old psychedelic shoegaze with the mini-album "Thingy Wingy." A very successful seven-track record that returned to the very essence of the early Brian Jonestown Massacre, after a few more or less successful experimental albums. While waiting to get our hands on this new opus, the band's label, Cargo Records, has just unveiled a promising first single. Titled "Sun Ship," it will please all fans of the Brian Jonestown Massacre with its sunny psychedelic pop melody, whose arrangements are meticulously crafted. If there were any doubts left, Newcombe skillfully handles his instruments and masterfully orchestrates a piece that resembles more of a story, so rich it is. A true revelation of the documentary "Dig!" released in 2004, the Brian Jonestown Massacre has since held a significant place in the indie territory. It must be said that with an ultra-productive singer who composes as he breathes and records constantly, it's impossible to overlook the band. It's even quite difficult to keep up with them, as the releases come in quick succession. Just a glance at the discography makes it clear: seventeen studio albums, five best-ofs, five live albums, and no less than seven EPs, three of which were released in the same year in 2009. A vast body of work that would almost make any music lover dizzy. But more than their music, it is above all the "genius Anton Newcombe" that fans admire today, making the Brian Jonestown Massacre one of the greatest independent bands of their generation.
