Description

Two distinct compilations by The Brian Jonestown Massacre cover the period from 1995 to 2004 and gather essential tracks from the band. The first features 15 songs from the albums, as well as live recordings and unreleased tracks, and is considered a classic release from the band. A second, more comprehensive compilation brings together 22 tracks also drawn from albums, concerts, and rarities. The psychedelic rock band hails from San Francisco and is led by guitarist and singer Anton Newcombe. Its name combines that of Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones with a reference to the guru Jim Jones. Initially influenced by the psychedelic era of The Rolling Stones, Newcombe later expanded his style. In the 2000s, the band's music moved closer to the British shoegaze of the 1990s. The Brian Jonestown Massacre has also played an important role in the modern American garage rock scene, notably bringing Peter Hayes of the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to prominence.
