On the occasion of the Year of the Rat (Chinese calendar), Bob Geldof reforms the Boomtown Rats! Formed in 1975 in Dublin, Bob Geldof, Simon Crowe, Pete Briquette, Garry Roberts, alias The Boomtown Rats, joined the emerging punk scene. In the UK, the Boomtown Rats began by touring with the Ramones and Talking Heads, shaking up and ridiculing the status quo alongside the Sex Pistols, the Clash, Jam and the Stranglers. They became one of the biggest bands of the 70s/80s, with a string of Top 10 hits and platinum albums. With their hit “Rat Trap”, they entered history as the first Irish band to reach No. 1 in the UK. They topped the charts in 32 countries with “I Don't Like Mondays”, and released 6 albums that marked their era: The Boomtown Rats (77), A Tonic For The Troops (78), The Fine Art Of Surfacing (79), Mondo Bongo (80), V Deep (82) and In The Long Grass (84). In 1984, prompted by a TV report on the famine in Ethiopia, Bob Geldof called on numerous stars and organized Band Aid, co-writing “Do They Know It's Christmas” in the process, one of the best-selling singles in history. He went on to stage Live Aid the following year. 'Citizens Of Boomtown' is the first studio album since 1984, the first in 36 years! European tour in 2020.
