The Montreal group presents its 6th album. The Besnard Lakes have stared death in the face and they’re here to tell the tale. Nearly five years since their last album, the masterful Montreal psych-rock group swore off compromise, split with their longtime label, and made a new 72-minute album about the darkness of dying and the light that’s on the other side. "Are The Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings" is the band’s sixth album and the first in over 15 years to be released away from a certain Midwestern American indie record label. After 2016’s "A Coliseum Complex Museum," where Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas attempted to write shorter, less sprawling songs, the Besnards and their label decided it was time to part ways, and this decision raised the question of whether to continue the project. Fueled by their love for each other and for playing music together, the sextet finally set about recording the most uncompromising record of their career. For all its grandeur, the album honors the very essence of punk rock: the idea that a band should only be relevant to itself. The Besnard Lakes have finally created a long and continuous suite: nine tracks that can be listened to together as one, overflowing with melody and harmony, hum and dazzle.
