The Alan Parsons Project is a progressive rock band composed of engineer and producer Alan Parsons and songwriter, musician Eric Woolfson. Between 1976 and 1987, they released 10 conceptual albums, selling over 55 million albums worldwide.
Their third studio album, "Pyramid," was released in May 1978. It is a conceptual album centered around the pyramids of Giza. At the time this album was conceived, interest in the pyramids and the so-called power of the pyramids was all the rage. One could find a pyramid on the back of a one-dollar bill, there were articles in newspapers about the supposed magical properties of the pyramids, and, of course, the cover of "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd.
As with the other APP albums, the focus was on very high-quality sound production, and the album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Various singers participated, including John Miles, Colin Blunstone, Lenny Zakatek, David Paton, Jack Harris, and Dean Ford. Additionally, a selection of session musicians such as guitarist Ian Bairnson and drummer Stuart Elliott, along with arrangements by Andrew Powell, were used.
The album was a worldwide success, selling over two million copies, achieving platinum and gold status in many countries, including the United States, Germany, and Canada.
The reissue of this legendary album that Cooking Vinyl offers us today has been fully remastered in 2024 at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell. The CD includes 4 bonus tracks in unreleased versions as well as a special 12-page booklet. The 180g vinyl reissue has also been produced with the utmost care, benefiting from exceptional remastering thanks to the Halfspeed Master techniques developed by Abbey Road Studios.
