The complete album KIND by Iyer in 2020 is the result of years of touring, connecting with the community, and a philosophy based on self-love. But rest is approached from a different angle. "Rest is in many ways a reflection of myself, posing the question: 'Who am I when everything stops?'" Iyer explains, referring, of course, to the early pandemic and its halting effect on the world. Being stuck at home indefinitely allowed Iyer to examine her relationship with rest on a more critical level. With this new pause, Iyer began to actively seek rest, with deliberate and kind intention, ultimately turning to songwriting as part of her new practice. The five resulting songs explore Iyer's conscious intentions through a graceful amalgam of tender pop with jazz inflections, supported by orchestral experimentation.
