Efficient Space welcomes Th Blisks with their mutant variety of dub melodica, fiery hip-hop breaks, post-punk, and procession singing.
The members of Th Blisks have many notches on their collective belt. Amelia Besseny and Cooper Bowman, founder of Altered States Tapes, are prolific in their ambient-pop ritual duo Troth, while Yuta Matsumura has a formidable pedigree from Sydney's punk scene in addition to his solo work supported by Low Company. A reward for those who took the time to unearth it, Th Blisks' debut album in 2022, How So?, was a DIY creation that fully embraced its foreign roots, relishing the opportunities for connection through pop.
Feeling that this could have been a one-off, we proclaim their return with Elixa. With unprecedented clarity, Elixa evokes its meticulously fleshed-out world. These familiar pieces are all there - the mystery, the patience, a cheeky pop hook - but this time, there is an intentionality in all of it. Blurry dialogue extending across Australia, it was largely recorded remotely with pieces bouncing between Bowman and Besseny in Muloobinba (Newcastle) and Nipaluna (Hobart), and Matsumura stationed in Warumpi (Papunya).
