Where You Are is the second album from the young 22-year-old South African Teno Afrika. His first album, Amapiano Selections, released in 2020, sparked a wave of international popularity due to the subtly minimal way the producer approaches this emerging style. Amapiano combines the South African penchant for deep house with a mix of endemic influences like kwaito, jazz, and gqom. His new series of songs, Where You Are, develops his rhythmic subtlety with warm basslines complemented by shakers, hi-hats, and the mid-tempo shuffle characteristic of amapiano. Lutendo Raduvha hails from Pretoria, South Africa, where he continuously produces music and hosts parties as a DJ in the Gauteng province. He hangs out with a crowd of musician friends, many of whom join him on Where You Are. For his second album, Teno Afrika collaborates with other singers, allowing him to add emotions and timbres to his expanding catalog. Singers Leyla and KayCee appear on the title track and "Fall In Love," respectively. Diego Don joins him for two dynamic, pad-driven works, "SK Love" and "AK Love." The final track of the album, "Duma ICU," features another long-time collaborator, Stylo MusiQ, who helps bring a chilling, almost cinematic conclusion to a fraction of the sound Teno Afrika is currently offering. The palpable feeling remains of not knowing where the young producer will head next.
