A Swollen River, A Well Overflowing - Clear Vinyl

Description

A Swollen River, A Well Overflowing is the second album by Tenci, following My Heart Is An Open Field (2020), which introduced the world to Jess Shoman's musical explorations. While she admits that the first album dealt with the feeling of emptiness that letting go of painful life experiences brings, in this collection born from several years of maturation and distance, Tenci conveys an opposite sentiment, a celebration of rebirth. A Swollen River, A Well Overflowing shows that Shoman takes her inventive music further and wilder, with 12 songs that resemble fables. Hailing from the tightly-knit Chicago scene, Shoman is joined by Curtis Oren on saxophone and guitar, Izzy Reidy on bass (Izzy True), and Joseph Farago on drums (Joey Nebulous). The years following My Heart is an Open Field saw the group performing together across the country before regrouping in Chicago to record A Swollen River with engineer Abby Black. While Tenci's themes revolve around serious reflection, trying to understand life's calamities, their concerts often feature a good dose of whimsical lightness. Their interactive play of drums and bass, saxophone, and cascading vocals warms the audience. The songs of A Swollen River, A Well Overflowing intertwine like twigs to create this fire, a burning message to keep moving forward.
