The end of the 90s is a fertile period for American electronic underground. At the convergence of hip-hop, electronic, and soul, a generation of artists seeks to carve its own path in a transatlantic conversation that has lasted for decades. In September 2001, Telefon Tel Aviv, a duo from New Orleans formed by childhood friends Joshua Eustis and the late Charles Cooper, enters this conversation with their first album Fahrenheit Fair Enough, released on Hefty Records. Recorded over a year in Eustis's childhood bedroom in the Riverbend neighborhood of New Orleans, the album navigates between the American influences of the moment, New Orleans bounce, Detroit techno, Chicago house, and British electronica, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Jega. The duo wanted to make a "hard club record" but instead produced a delicate slice of electronica, definitively American and a bit Southern too. For the 25th anniversary of this foundational album, a deluxe double vinyl obi edition in a new Watercolor colorway is released. A work that sits on the fringes of IDM, experimental, and bass music, and continues to influence a new generation of artists like Loraine James and Kelly Moran.
