As Tele Novella, Chronis (who plays in the beloved and revived indie pop band Voxtrot) and Ribbons (who previously played in the long-running "Victorian punk" project Agent Ribbons) have spent their last two albums creating "Medieval outsider country" on House Of Souls in 2016 and Merlynn Belle in 2021. Poet’s Tooth – the band's second album for Kill Rock Stars – steers the duo's whimsical, western-tinged quality in fascinating new directions: a cinematic pop ballad on the autoharp-tinged opener "Young & Free," American folk on "Hard-Hearted Way," and bass funk on the ironic "Eggs In One Basket." With the help of producer Danny Reisch, Tele Novella has crafted its most genre-rich, poetic, and sincere album to date.
