What Is Not Strange is the first album by Los Angeles-based composer Tashi Wada since FRKWYS Vol. 14: Nue in 2017, an album created in collaboration with his father, Yoshi Wada. What Is Not Strange features the vocals of Julia Holter, Tashi Wada's long-time partner and collaborator, the percussion of Corey Fogel, the viola of Ezra Buchla, and the bass of Devin Hoff. Written and recorded during a period that encompasses the death of his father and the birth of his daughter, the album sees Tashi Wada delving into introspection to explore vast narratives—being alive, mortality, finding one's place in the world—through new ecstatic modes of expression based on songs.
