Probables

Description

Alongside boring formats and commercial assumptions, music, in the margins, continues to emerge from a game of chance, instincts, and infinite possibilities. It is to this primal and fundamental aspect of musical writing that the Tachycardie project reconnects. Led by Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy, a drummer from a French noise and adventurous scene (seen in the bands Pneu, Binidu, La Colonie de Vacances, F.U.T.U.R.OS.C.O.P.E, Blast …), this entity expresses a creative vision in constant motion. On Probables, his first full-length album, Geoffroy explores a terrain between contemporary music, minimalism, and sound art. The inaugural piece 1000 Fois Bonjour Depuis Le Vignemale was written to be performed by an orchestra and recorded by seventeen musicians. The three other tracks on the album, also instrumental, were recorded solo by the musician in just a few days using an extremely versatile instrumentarium: motorized percussion elements, struck objects, oyster shells, field recordings, and synthesizers, among others. Composed in an instinctive and empirical manner, all these pieces are a massive assembly of nuances, explosions, and patterns that align with the research lineage of pioneers such as Terry Riley, Eliane Radigue, or Pauline Oliveiros. Yet, this new stage in the musician's creative life belongs solely to him. Both an exploration of the new possibilities offered by orchestral writing and a physical transcendence of his drummer's body, Probables is a reflective work on the possibilities of solitary music that leaves room for collaborations that suit its creation. That is why the album will be performed live solo, in a group with guest musicians, or even in the form of autonomous installations.
