Released in the heart of the 1970s — a decade that Marc Bolan and T. Rex had, let us recall, officially launched in 1970 with "Ride A White Swan" — the album "Bolan's Zip Gun", with its blend of futuristic soul and the hypnotic repetitiveness of rock 'n' roll, initially baffled some critics, before being regarded as a hidden gem. As always, Marc had sniffed out the right side of things, and "Bolan's Zip Gun" pays homage to the American R&B and funk that dominated the era, while anticipating the imminent British punk revolution. It is no coincidence that Siouxsie Sioux once cited the frenetic "Think Zinc" among her favorite records.The album's flagship track, "Think Zinc" was only released as a single in Germany, but "Bolan's Zip Gun" produced two other classic T. Rex singles: "Light Of Love" and "Zip Gun Boogie". With the arrival of Dino Dines on keyboards and the integration of Gloria Jones, Marc's girlfriend and soul singer, into the band for backing vocals and clavinet, the album represented a huge leap forward for the sound of T. Rex.
