Description

When a six-string wizard and master of improvisation meets a studio alchemist, one can expect some delightful surprises and a few unexpected twists. Let's just say it upfront: this is undoubtedly Sylvain Luc's most innovative project yet, though he's known for never being where you expect him. Sylvain Luc by Renaud Letang. Everything is said in the title of this collaboration (initiated by producer Alexandre Lacombe) between wizard-storytellers, those revolutionaries who put imagination in power. As usual, Sylvain Luc follows the flow of his overflowing inspiration to weave sumptuous harmonic canvases and astonishing, explosive jazz interplay. Around the console of Ferber's Studio B, Letang's lair, these two discovered a common playground: the work of sound, textures, and musical architectures. This album could have been titled "80 vs 2000," echoing the eponymous track that spans the boozy synth sounds of the 80s, allusions to hip hop scratches, and electro loops of the current machine age. In the middle, a dissonant and wandering jazz-funk guitar. This Sylvain Luc by Renaud Letang is a first in the composer's rich career. Accustomed to sharing the stage and studio with musicians from all backgrounds, the Basque composer this time "duets" with a producer, creating a subtle mirror effect, not merely an illustration of his music. Indeed, with Sylvain Luc, you never know what to expect.
