In July 1975, the single "Action," composed by Sweet, reached 15th place on the British charts. Armed with their writing and production talents, the band members spent the second half of 1975 at the Musicland studios in Munich, Germany, where they recorded the album "Give Us a Wink" with German sound engineer Reinhold Mack. The release of this new album was postponed to 1976 in order not to harm the success of their previous work, "Desolation Boulevard" (1974), which was still selling very well. In January 1976, the single "The Lies in Your Eyes" entered the Top 10 in Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Australia, but only reached 35th place in the UK. "Give Us a Wink," the first album entirely produced and written by Sweet, was released in March 1976. These successes illustrate the band's image change, moving from a glam style to a more raw look, jeans and leather. Sweet sought to consolidate their growing popularity in the United States, with fifty headlining concerts starting in January 1976. However, the American tour was not financially successful, with low attendance in many venues leading to the cancellation of the last six dates. After the tour, the band planned to spend a week at the Who's Ramport studios in Battersea to record demos for a new album, before abandoning the project and heading to Japan for eight concerts. The Japanese concerts, on the other hand, were a tremendous success, selling out in all venues and cities, including three nights in Tokyo. The band's last concert, held at the famous Nakano Sunplaza in Tokyo and recorded for live FM radio broadcast, remains a fan favorite and is still considered one of their best concerts. Now fully available on this new CD, this new archival reissue will delight the many fans of Sweet, who are still very active.
