Esther Edquist is an artist from Melbourne performing under the name Sweet Whirl. She is also one of the best songwriters heard in a long time. She has previously been spotted in the duo Superstar and in the band Scott & Charlene's Wedding. After a few releases praised by Gorilla Vs Bear, The Guardian, and Clash Magazine, How Much Works is her first proper album. How Much Works is a perfectly crafted album of ten songs, from an artist who masters storytelling but is also in search of new expressions. This meticulously crafted record represents a triumph over the darkest moments. It features the love confessions of an experienced partygoer, romantic yet mischievous. Esther dissects experiences with wit and depth, emerging as a powerful and untamed voice. Both musically and lyrically, How Much Works draws inspiration from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Sheryl Crow. It transforms personal and introspective narratives into something universal and sublime. Esther plays almost everything on the album, accompanied by the guitar and theremin of engineer Casey Hartnett (Sui Zhen, Sleep Decade) and the drums of Monty Hartnett (Dreamin Wild, Sleep Decade). Gregor, another artist from the Chapter Music label, provides backing vocals on "Make That Up For Me" and "Conga Line." This debut solo album is an exquisite gem that evokes a sweet sense of grace.
