On July 26, the great classic by Susumu Yokota, "Acid Mt. Fuji," released in 1994, is reissued in an extended and deluxe version, as part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the label that originally presented it. The Japanese label Musicmine - more specifically its electronic subsidiary Sublime Records - released the album on June 29, 1994, alongside Ken Ishii's "Reference To Difference," as the first joint offering.
"Acid Mt. Fuji" is an enchanting blend of mystical acid ambient and futuristic minimal techno, taking listeners on a psychedelic pilgrimage, where the 303, synthesizers, and electronic percussion are infused with reverb, echo, and forest recordings. Blending Japanese new age and clean electronics, the recording is free, organic, and energetic - offering a unique mix of early 90s Western styles and the essence of its country of origin.
Yokota initially planned an ambient record, but "Acid Mt. Fuji" evolved into a conceptual work featuring the Roland TB-303, which he recorded live at home with a sampler, yielding experimental and innovative results.
