Susan Cadogan

Susan Cadogan is a reggae and rocksteady singer from Kingston, Jamaica. Her delicate voice, oscillating between childlike innocence and burning sensuality, perfectly embodied lovers rock. Her talent as a singer led her to record her first single, "Love My Life," for DJ Jerry Lewis of the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). Lee "Scratch" Perry, present in the studio at that time, was so impressed by Cadogan's voice that he recorded an entire album with her, renaming her Susan. One of her first recordings for Perry, a cover of Millie Jackson's soul hit, "Hurt So Good" (with bassist Boris Gardiner), was released in the UK on Dennis Harris's DIP International label. The track topped the British reggae charts and reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart, allowing Cadogan to travel to London to promote the single, including numerous television appearances on the BBC's Top of the Pops. Other singles ("Nice & Easy," "Fever," "In the Ghetto") followed, but none charted. "Hurt So Good" was later certified silver in the UK and gold in South Africa a few weeks later, and became one of the best-selling singles of 1975 in the UK. This album, recorded for Trojan Records and produced by the legendary Lee Perry, is available in a limited edition numbered to 750 copies on orange vinyl.
