Superspace is the new electro-pop duo formed by Maurice Summen and Tom Hessler (alias Der Assistent). Together, they produce electronic music that blends basic AI applications, expensive vintage equipment, and a sampled aesthetic reminiscent of the 90s. The two artists also host a monthly show on ByteFM, Radio Superspace, where they share their diverse influences: house, dub, new wave, electro-pop, ambient… The term "Superspace" originally comes from theoretical physics (John Wheeler), but here it is repurposed for a social and artistic reflection. All the tracks on the album were created in dialogue with AI, using vocal and melodic prompts, including the bugs and "flaws" of the early free versions of OpenAI (winter 2022/23), which have themselves become sources of samples, much like in the past with records or films. This process raises profound questions: who owns these sounds? Who is truly the author? Can we distinguish the human voice from an AI that mimics a hum? Is pop already a "second-order reality"? And what happens when AI listens to itself, learns, and evaluates its own success or failure? Superspace thus invites exploration of these blurred areas between technology, art, and identity, playing with the boundaries of creation and control.
