The Finnish quartet Superposition returns with their second album, "II", on We Jazz Records, on July 19. The band will present their new album live for the first time on the same day at the Odysseus festival in Helsinki, organized by We Jazz. Led by drummer Olavi Louhivuori, Superposition features Linda Fredriksson and Adele Sauros on saxophones and Mikael Saastamoinen on bass. Having won the "EMMA" award for Finnish jazz album of the year with their first album (We Jazz Records, 2020), Superposition makes a leap forward with their remarkably strong new album, taking the acoustic free jazz sound of the quartet in a more melodic and fluid direction.
Superposition, a sought-after live combo, is above all a solid group that understands the power of developing their music together. Each of the four members contributes compositions for album number two, and they all write in a way that serves the overall sound of the group. Olavi Louhivuori, the de facto leader of the group, composed 4 of the 9 tracks, but there is no hierarchy here and the sound of Superposition is certainly shared.
