The Sultans Of Ping are an Irish band formed in 1988. The band's name is a play on the Dire Straits song from 1978 "Sultans of Swing," from a time when "it was sacrilege to say anything funny or mean about Dire Straits." After several lineup changes, the band caught the attention of the Irish and British music press when "Where's Me Jumper" was released in January 1992. After several other independent singles, the band signed with Epic Records, through a deal arranged by Martin Heath of Rhythm King Records. With Epic, the band released their debut album Casual Sex In The Cineplex. This early 1993 album reached number 23 on the UK Albums Chart and includes the singles "Where's Me Jumper," "Stupid Kid," and "You Talk Too Much." These singles reached number 8, 11, and 4 on the Irish singles chart, respectively.
