A reference to the nicknames that waitresses in American diners use to address customers, and to Didier’s bouncy tendency (Wampas)? Or simply a way to best translate the elegant fusion between pop and punk that results from the alchemy between Florence and Didier? In any case, 2022 is resolutely pop, resolutely punk, resolutely musical, and definitely Sugar & Tiger. Because it was already 10 years ago that Sugar (Florence) and Tiger (Didier) began recording their first demos. And it was already 9 years ago that they were joined by Diego (drummer), Arnold (guitarist), Didier’s sons, and Jean-Mi, faithful bassist of the Wampas. For 10 years, Sugar & Tiger have been devoted to doing what they love most: hitting the road. Like their many North American road trips as a duo, they have traveled across France and Southeast Asia, hauling their little troupe to countless venues and playing nearly 150 concerts. Concerts where Sugar’s voice and pop glitter dresses blend perfectly into Tiger’s punk backdrop and that of his bandmates. Concerts during which the audience is in a bubble, outside of time, sharing the dreams and stories sung by Sugar and played by Tiger. In 2022, they’re at it again, with CRISTAL TEMPOREL, their 4th album. An album that recalls the live energy so desired in recent months, with a girl group vibe, pop anthems driven by punk guitars, Sugar as frontwoman and Tiger as an angry backing vocalist. An album that, like the previous ones, has its share of hits, strange journeys, pop bombs, romantic and hallucinatory lyrics, but always poetic.
