ONE GUITAR WOMAN-A TRIBUTE TO THE FEMALE PIONEERS OF GUITAR

Description

3 years after the release of her last studio album, SUE FOLEY returns with an album paying tribute to pioneering female guitarists. "One Guitar Woman" is a heartfelt homage to female guitar pioneers, including Memphis Minnie, Lydia Mendoza, Maybelle Carter, Ida Presti, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The album showcases Foley's guitar dexterity as she expands her blues playing into other genres such as Piedmont fingerpicking, traditional country, flamenco, and classical. "Ever since I decided to become a professional guitarist, I have always sought out female role models. These are the women who expressed themselves through the instrument as early as the 1920s, at the dawn of radio and recorded music. They are pioneers and visionaries whose footsteps I follow," says Foley. This is Sue at the peak of her art. Last May, Foley received the Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award) in Memphis TN – an award she also won in 2022 and 2020. She was also recently honored with Guitarist of the Year and Blues Act of the Year at the Austin Music Awards 2023 and Guitarist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards 2023. Her previous album, Pinky's Blues, won Best Traditional Blues Album at the 2022 Blues Music Awards. And her latest live album "Sue Foley Live In Austin Vol. 1" continues to be #1 on the Roots Music Chart and has appeared on a number of Best Of 2023 blues lists.
