Certainly, one can no longer count on him for artistic challenges or the mise en abyme of his career. Ex-punk for fun and to get noticed, Sting has become over time and thanks to often impeccable albums, oscillating between mainstream jazz, diaphanous soul, and conscientious world music, what is commonly referred to as a safe bet on the FM band. But this singer-bassist by training is English, which implies that the man has enough class to manage his career with finesse and discreetly, and, like Mark Knopfler, to produce records and hits without ever drawing attention to himself.
Delicate, Sting, who had planned to broadcast this concert recorded in Tuscany on September 11th simultaneously on his website, decided to cancel the operation due to the events we know. To punctuate the drama, he contented himself with broadcasting on the internet the impeccable version of Fragile that opened the concert.

Surrounded by a band of misfits whose last false note dates back to their first year of solfège (Dominic Miller on guitar, B.J. Cole on pedal steel, our national Manu Katché on drums…), Sting effortlessly navigates his repertoire with brilliance, without ever dwelling too long. Of course, Roxanne or Every Breath You Take are there to remind us of his past as a "police" jumper dressed in khaki, but the real winners of this somewhat special evening (only 200 guests) remain the jazzy Perfect Love Gone Wrong, Hounds Of Winter with West Coast scents, or Dienda, an unreleased ballad composed by Kenny Kirkland. The recent Brand New Day, a boogie revue, struggles to move but Fields Of Gold and If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, elegant and subtle like Sting when he acts, make one forget the few missteps that are also the hallmark of this musician, after all, one of the most respectable.
