It features 10 tracks recorded across the globe, representing two years of musical creation.Although Wilson is already involved in numerous full-time bands (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-Man, Bass-Communion...), he explains that when he started writing the tracks for "Insurgentes," he immediately felt that this music would be better suited for an album under his own name. For him, it was an almost intuitive, albeit unconscious, writing process, resulting in a kind of "poetry of melancholy."To create this album, Steven Wilson recruited a host of artists, including Porcupine Tree's drummer, Gavin Harrison; Dream Theater's keyboardist, Jordan Rudess; the celebrated bassist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd); Japanese koto player Michiyo Yagi; guitarist Sand Snowman; and jazz saxophonist Theo Travis. The final production delivered by Wilson and his friends is a musical escapade rich in atmosphere, at the crossroads of Portishead and Nine Inch Nails!
