Out of print for nearly 15 years, this album was recorded at the beginning of the long relationship between Kieran Hebden and the extraordinary drummer Steve Reid. Soul Jazz Records had begun releasing Reid’s music in 2000, reissuing much of his early catalogue of radical, deep and spiritual jazz from the 1970s, when a meeting between electronic music pioneer Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid effectively launched a new career for the jazz drummer Reid - a man steeped in history who had played with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, Motown and many others. Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid released a series of groundbreaking albums together in London, New York and Africa (including four on Domino Records) and continued working together until Steve Reid’s death in 2010. This album marked the beginning of this new connection between the two very different yet linked artists - a blend of electronic sensibility and jazz like no other. The album "Spirit Walk" contains an updated version of "Lions of Judah", a Reid classic, "For Coltrane", and the epic 15-minute "Drum Song".
