American singer Steve Earle (born in Fort Monroe, Virginia, on January 17, 1955), a blues, country, folk, and rock artist, grew up in Texas before moving to Nashville, where he built his career with his band, The Dukes. His "roots" and committed songs quickly gained recognition starting with his first album, the exemplary Guitar Town (1986). Other albums followed at regular intervals, establishing Steve Earle as a major singer-songwriter of his era, in the vein of Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt.
