Description

Stephen O'Malley, cofounder of SUNN O))), releases a new album featuring previously unheard organ works, comprising two lengthy compositions performed with renowned organist Kali Malone and Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary). The album was recorded on Les Grandes Orgues (Scherrer (1777), Walker (1867), Kuhn (1995)) at St. François Church in Lausanne, Switzerland, around Christmas 2021. These works were originally composed by Stephen O'Malley as part of a suite titled Les Sphères (effondrez-les), Phases I-V, for a collaboration with acclaimed Belgian-Swiss choreographer Cindy Van Acker. In addition to the two organ pieces on this record, the suite also included Phases III and V for electric guitar, amplifiers, and electronics (performed by Stephen O'Malley and Kali Malone), and Phase IV for percussion ensemble (performed by Eklekto). Mixed by Stephen O’Malley at EMS (Stockholm) and by François-Xavier Delaby and Tristan Mazire in Paris in February 2022. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker in Berlin in June 2025. Perfect pressing by Optimal (Germany). This album is a co-production with La Becque Editions. Stephen O’Malley also appears on the forthcoming XKatedral Anthology Series III compilation. Sunn O))) will be touring in 2026.
